Owens’s reverence for tradition distinctly manifests in his straight-away playing style, but it is the versatility of his talent— his unique ability to manipulate texture and create penetrating musical shapes— that attracts the attention of jazz’s heavy hitters. His performance catalog includes collaborations with Nicholas Payton, Wynton Marsalis, Monty Alexander, Dianne Schurr, Renee Fleming and Mulgrew Miller, just to name a few. A burgeoning force in the industry, Owens has been named a Rising Star by DownBeat’s Critics Poll for five years straight. He is a recipient of the 2013 ASCAP Plus Award, a Gold Medal winner of the 2014 Global Music Awards and a 2015 Jazz at Lincoln Center Swing! Awards Honoree. Still, most notable of Owens’s accomplishments are his performances on the 2010 GRAMMY award-winning Kurt Elling live album, Dedicated to You, and the 2012 GRAMMY award-winning Christian McBride Big Band album, The Good Feeling. His work with Joey Alexander and the Christian McBride Trio has also received recognition by the Academy, garnering GRAMMY nominations for My Favorite Things, Countdown, Out Here and Live at the Village Vanguard. At the heart of Owens’s work is a passion for creation and the desire to reach new audiences. On and off stage, music emanates from every inch of his being, and no performance goes unmarked by Owens’s signature smile. Owens is a gifted bandleader, claiming four successful albums of his own (It’s Time for U, Unanimous, Onward and Upward, and Falling Forward.) and four self-produced albums with the New Century Jazz Quintet (Time is Now, In Case You Missed Us, Arise, and Soul Conversion), a skillful group he co-leads with pianist Takeshi Ohbayashi in Japan. Owens’s band-first philosophy ensures that all conversations with an audience remain fluid and focused, another stamp of his seasoned expertise and professional sophistication. Amidst touring, Owens is regularly involved in special projects. In 2015, he served as Artist-in-Residence at the Park Avenue Armory Conservancy where he presented Ulysses in 3. This multi-disciplinary performance piece showcased the literary masterpiece Ulysses by James Joyce, the work of celebrated choreographer Ulysses Dove and Owens’s own original compositions, weaved together through the mediums of music, dance, spoken word and visual art. That same year, Owens was commissioned by Jazz at Lincoln Center and the Museum of Modern Art to compose a work for the Museum’s Summer Garden Series. The final result was a seven- movement suite entitled Stages of Us reflecting on the African American experience. A strong believer in community engagement, Owens has ardently supported cultural institutions. From 2012 to 2015, Owens served as the Jazz Vesper Series Artistic Director at the world-renowned Abyssinian Baptist Church. He was also appointed Artistic Music Curator for the legendary Minton’s Playhouse, at the request of restaurateur Alexander Smalls, producing over 85 shows for the jazz club during its 2015 fall season. His first major production as Music Director came the following year with Songs of Freedom, which debuted in the Appel Room at Jazz at Lincoln Center. The tribute piece honored musical greats Abbey Lincoln, Nina Simone, and Joni Mitchell and featured vocalists Alicia Olatuja, Theo Bleckmann and NEA Jazz Master Dee Dee Bridgewater. The success of Songs of Freedom, which was highlighted for its message of “hope and progress” by The New York Times, only further certifies Owens’s years of experience music directing on smaller stages for creations of his own and other artists alike. This project is now touring around the USA, and the “Songs of Freedom Album” will be released on the DiskUnion Japan Label, in April, 2018.

Earl is a Composer, Arranger, and Master Showman...He readily admits he survived the music business all these years because of his decision to become an entertainer, not just a musician. “Entertainment is the way to make good business out of music.” Williams makes it his business to surround himself with musicians who can “do it all”: jazz, rhythm & blues, dance tunes – whatever it takes to captivate a crowd. His four piece band consists of Piano & Vocals, Bass and Drums – featuring Earl on Saxophone. Earl has played with many internationally renowned artists including Ray Charles, Aretha Franklin, Isaac Hayes, and Chubby Checker. He was band leader for Jerry Farber, a great comedian from Atlanta. Earl toured with The Commodores from 1976 – 1980. He started playing at the Crow’s Nest at the old Hilton Head Inn in 1987. He also played at the Mockingbird Lounge, at the Marriott, and the Blue Nite Café. In the early 90’s Earl spent most of the time out to sea performing three shows a week aboard a luxury cruise ship as the featured entertainment. Today Earl performs at The Jazz Corner, at private events, and weddings and is always a hit!

To reserve please call 843-842-8620 The Gershwin brothers, George and Ira, are perhaps the preeminent song writers of the 20th Century. Their songs are amongst the most recognizable and cherished works in American musical history. Jack Lewin is producing a musical review entitled Here To Stay, a show which will combine the music of Gershwin with the duo piano and vocal artistry of Champian Fulton and John Proulx, two of the most outstanding pianist/vocalists of today, in a two piano tribute to this most popular of Great American Songwriters. The 80-minute revue explores the George Gershwin catalogue, taking all of the composer’s most familiar standards and interspersing them with some lesser known songs, concert works, and even Porgy And Bess. There will be many two-piano, four-handed spectacular numbers, some just piano and some sung, as well as individual features for the two artists. The great Gershwin songs will be played and sung with warmth, humor and wit, along with interesting anecdotes relevant to the music, as interpreted by these two outstanding musicians. Here To Stay will present it’s world premiere performance in New York City on October 23rd, 2018 at the Birdland Theater at the legendary Birdland Jazz Club for a performance to benefit the University Of Michigan’s "Gershwin Initiative”. Thereafter, the show will be presented in theaters and performing arts centers around the country. ***************** Champian Fulton (Pianist Vocalist) Born in Oklahoma, Champian Fulton has become a world class Jazz pianist and vocalist with international acclaim. She grew up with music in the home; her mother and father (Jazz trumpeter and educator Stephen Fulton) recognized her fascination with music at an early age. The presence of her father’s musician friends, including Clark Terry and Major Holley, inspired her focus on Jazz. Her first paid musical engagement was with her own band at Clark Terry’s 75th Birthday Party; she was 10 years old. Since then, her piano and voice skills have been recognized by peers and critics as distinctive and sophisticated. Champian has performed to audiences in New York’s finest Jazz rooms and in concert halls around the world. A mainstay on the vibrant New York Jazz scene, she has performed with musical royalty such as Lou Donaldson, Frank Wess, Eric Alexander, Buster Williams, and Louis Hayes. From New York to Barcelona, Champian’s swinging style and charismatic performances have made her a guardian of the legacy of Jazz. Champian’s heroes include Bud Powell, Red Garland, Erroll Garner, Count Basie, Sarah Vaughan, and Dinah Washington. Jazz education is a concern near and dear to Champian’s heart, having been inspired by Clark Terry’s tireless advocacy for the perpetuation of the craft. Clark coached her on rehearsal techniques, performance etiquette, private teaching, and the business of the Jazz. Champian strives to impart this unique knowledge to students around the world, while being involved in educational programs such as Litchfield Jazz Camp and Rutgers Jazz Institute. Champian is ambitious about recording her music. As a leader she has nine recordings to her credit. Her debut album, Champian with David Berger & the Sultans of Swing (2007 Such Sweet Thunder Records) was recorded following a two-year residency at the famed New York Jazz Club Birdland. Her releases Sometimes I’m Happy (2008 Venus Records) and the breeze and I (2010 Gut String Records) featured her working trio. Champian’s following two releases, Champian Sings and Swings (2013 Sharp Nine) and Change Partners (2014 Cellar Live) were both recognized as being “in the top 10 releases of the year” for their respective years (NY Observer). Champian’s album, “After Dark” (2016) with Jazz luminaries David Williams on bass, Lewis Nash on drums, and Stephen Fulton on flugelhorn, features the music of Dinah Washington. In 2017, she published no less than three albums an instrumental one ("Speechless" - Posi-Tone), a wonderful recording with Scott Hamilton ("The Things We Did Last Summer" - Blau Records) and "Christmas with Champian" (Champian Records). Recognized as a Rising Jazz Star by the Downbeat Magazine Critic’s Poll, Champian also received the "Female Jazz Vocalist Of the Year" at the 2017 Hot House Jazz Magazine Fans Decision Award Ceremony.Her “galvanizing presence” (the New Yorker) and her alluring musical presentation have made her “a charming young steward of the mainstream Jazz tradition.” (The New York Times) **************** John Proulx (Pianist Vocalist) John Proulx is a prominent jazz singer, pianist, composer, and recording artist. His voice recalls the smooth, mellow sounds of a young Chet Baker. John’s latest CD, “Say It”, was released on March 14th, 2018 on the ArtistShare label. It features Chuck Berghofer, Joe LaBarbera, Larry Koonse, Bob Sheppard, a duet with Melissa Manchester, and three string quartet arrangements by Alan Broadbent. John’s previous three albums on MAXJAZZ, “The Best Thing For You”, "Baker’s DozenRemembering Chet Baker”, and “Moon and Sand”, have garnered national and international acclaim. In addition to touring with his own trio, John has performed with the likes of Anita O'Day, Natalie Cole, Melissa Manchester, and Marian McPartland. John is also a Grammy-winning composer. Jazz legend, Nancy Wilson, recorded "These Golden Years", a song that John co-wrote with lyricist D. Channsin Berry, for her 2006 Grammy-winning CD, “Turned to Blue”. Most recently, John co-wrote a song called “Stained Glass” with Melissa Manchester for his new album, “Say It”. John and Melissa also co-wrote a song called “Big Light” for her 20th studio album, “You Gotta Love The Life”, featuring a duet with Melissa and Al Jarreau. Jazz singer, Mary Stallings, recorded "Stuck in a Dream" (2005, “Remember Love”), and “Before You Know It” (2010, “Dream”), two songs John co-wrote with lyricist K. Lawrence Dunham. Deana Martin also recorded “Stuck in a Dream” on her latest album, “Destination Moon”. John began his formal musical education at the age of three in Grand Rapids, MI on Suzuki violin, but quickly switched to classical piano lessons. His late grandfather, Clyde Proulx, was a jazz guitarist who introduced him to the world of jazz. Driven by the freedom of improvisation, his education took him to Chicago to study at Roosevelt University’s Chicago School of Performing Arts where he received his Bachelors of Music in 1999. In 2001, John moved to Los Angeles to further his musical pursuits. He emerged as a young talent on the Los Angeles jazz scene and loved the wide-range of opportunities the city had to offer. John also spent four months in 2009 at the prestigious Feinstein’s at the Loews Regency hotel in New York City playing a nightly solo piano/vocal engagement. Since then, John has appeared on Michael Feinstein’s radio show on NPR, “Song Travels” as well as on Marian McPartland’s radio show, “Piano Jazz”. John recently moved back to Grand Rapids, Michigan to pursue a Master’s degree from Western Michigan University in Kalamazoo. ***************** Jack Lewin (Producer) Jack Lewin has produced numerous nightclub and cabaret acts. He helped conceive, and produced Our Sinatra, which ran in NYC Off-Broadway for 1300 performances to rave reviews. He conceived and co-created Hunka Hunka Burnin’ Love – An Elvis Presley Musical Tribute which has had several productions around the country.
